I'm stepping up against cancer!

My Father Alan passed away in his late 70s from Prostate Cancer. My Husband John, who is an absolute Champion turned 50 in n 2007 which was a significant turning point in his life. His mother Shirley had battled bowel cancer for several years, and with other family members affected by the disease, she pestered him to have a check up.

Her intuition proved correct with a colonoscopy detecting a tumour.

John had surgery to remove the tumour in May 2007 followed by six months of chemotherapy.

Shirl passed away on the morning of his 11th treatment, leaving us with so much to thank her for.

Early detection proved to be a godsend.

Sharing our story, doing voluntary work for The Cancer Council and getting involved in Relay For Life is our way of saying thank you to Shirl for saving John's life. I’m also taking part in this event as a regular participant as it is fun and the exercise especially in the lead up is good for you.
