Support my bike ride of 400km to support the fight against cancer.

This year, I’m taking on Relay For Life to raise funds for every person who’s ever heard the words: “you have cancer”. Being part of the Ride 4 Relay team means that we will cycle 400km over 5 days over and up many hills in the South Burnett Area. Although the ride is hard work, it is easier than the battle of cancer.

 In 2017 I heard those words. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Triple Negative. 2mm off of being Stage 3. Luckily, we caught it early. After a lumpectomy, 6 rounds of Chemotherapy of 5 different chemo drugs and then radiation therapy I was eventually given the all clear. I was one of the lucky ones. 

Cancer is a devastating disease for so many. For people living with cancer, their treatments can be long and stressful. For my  children they heard how I nearly died after surgery due to an allergy to the pain killers, and my heart bottomed out. After my first round of Chemo, I got an infection which had me fighting for my life as my children watched as I was placed on a helicopter on Mother's Day. By round 3 of Chemo the doctors realised I was in Heart Failure. I was one of the fortunate ones. I survived. Sadly many people do not seek help fast enough, scared of the C word.

But with your support, I hope to help as many people impacted by cancer as possible. Together, we can support families when they need it most, empower people to reduce their risk, speak up for communities, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.

My daughter Casey asked me to walk in the Surviors Walk for Relay for Life in 2017, I could barely walk through the door. I made a promise that in 2018 I would do the walk. Then the Ride 4 Relay team came into the hall on their bikes. I promised I would do the Ride the following year. (To be honest, I thought it was 84km over 5 days!) 

In 2018 I did my first Relay for Life Walk. In 2019 I did my first Ride 4 Relay, cycling over 400km over the hills and many undulations of the South Burnett region.

Each km I ride is one closer to a cancer free future. But I can’t do it alone! Please donate to my Relay today and together, we can help Cancer Council provide life-changing support services, advocacy, prevention and research to help thousands of families.
