Hobart 2026

I'm stepping up against cancer!

This year, I’m taking on Relay For Life to raise funds for every person who’s ever heard the words: “you have cancer”. In 2024, more than 150, 000 Australians will receive the news. Among them are our friends, families and colleagues.

Cancer is a devastating disease for so many. For people living with cancer, their treatments can be long and stressful. For those without solutions, the future can be uncertain. It’s a concern shared by their loved ones.

But with your support, I hope to help as many people impacted by cancer as possible. Together, we can support families when they need it most, empower people to reduce their risk, speak up for communities, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.

Every step I take is one closer to a cancer free future. But I can’t do it alone! Please donate to my Relay today and together, we can help Cancer Council provide life-changing support services, advocacy, prevention and research across Australia.

Thank you for stepping up. Together we’ll make powerful strides against cancer!

So far this year I've helped provide:

Leukaemia survivors

Diagnosed with Acute Myeloma Leukaemia in 2020 just when I was coming to terms with living with a spinal disease it certainly was a hard pill to swallow
It was covid time and I’d been laying on my bed for weeks because I could not see my GP because we had a Covid or suspected Covid case in our home.
I literally stayed alive drinking Gatorade for almost 3 weeks until I lost so much weight and became so sick with fevers. My wife took me to emergency and within 60 minutes. I was up in nine A at the Royal Hobart Hospital in for the fight of my life.
I did have a strong heart even though I was 58 at the time they could give me the strongest chemotherapy not given to people over 50 normally because of the heart damage it could cause but my heart was so strong from my marathon running. It literally saved my life Nick Murphy my head Hematologist kept on telling me this was a marathon of my life and while Chemo was terrible, all the blood transfusion irons and platelet transfusion the middle of chemotherapy was the worst for me and the last couple of the seven we’re not too bad actually.
Just When I finish my treatment, I lost my beloved American Staffordshire terrier alias pitbull
She was only mid age and died from a brain tumour and life went downhill from there. I became depressed taking heavy medication for my spinal disease OxyContin and then Valium for my depression and this time 12 months ago. I was ready to give it all up spending New Year’s Eve in Peacock house because of my suicide tenancy at the timeĀ
I did hit my rock bottom but have spent this year not taking any medication at all not drinking alcohol and training for the London marathon that I managed to secure a spot for 2026
The head of the ward in nine A at the Royal asked me could I do a couple of laps when I was having my treatment but it turned out I was bottoming out from one of my Chemoā€˜s and I was not well enough to run so hopefully I can get all my family and friends involved and raise some money to help towards finding more cues and more efficient treatments to save more people
I am one of the very lucky ones who was told last year that in the eyes of my oncology Hematologist that I am cured and that is absolutely unbelievable considering in the beginning I was told that I would not be cured. I was going into remission but would probably have to fight ongoing.Ā
So please feel free to donate or join our team and make sure you dress in the orange T-shirt or tank top the colour of the leukaemia foundation  🧔
Thank you šŸ™šŸ¼Ā
