I'm stepping up against cancer!
This year, I’m taking on Relay For Life to raise funds for every person who’s ever heard the words: “you have cancer”.
In November 2019, we heard those words when my partner, my children's father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Throat Cancer.
My partner started Chemotherapy, the toll it took on him, his body and health was so hard to see. He was very brave and strong for his children.
Just when we thought treatment was working to shrink the cancer unfortunately in August 2020, Kevin had an 'undiagnosed' stroke which sadly meant no Chemotherapy for a few weeks while he recovered.
November 2020, a year after diagnosis, we were dealt with the most devastating news; the cancer had spread to his stomach; words we heard next was; there is nothing more we can do, then the heartbreaking words: 'end of life' care. I remember that day well, I broke down,as the words sunk in, looked at our four beautiful children and was like how are we meant to explain to our children. It was truly gut wrenching.
Things progressed quickly, Kevin was transported from the hospital to the Whittle ward, but his wish was to be home, so his wish forfilled.
On Wednesday December 16th- the specialist doctors came out to visit; their words that night was like daggers to the heart, they said he will likely only make it a few more days, so to prepare ourselves.
On Sunday 20th December, Kevin lost his fight against cancer.

I am participating in relay for life, as from personal experience cancer is a devastating disease for so many. For people living with cancer, their treatments can be long and stressful. For those without solutions, the future can be uncertain. It’s a concern shared by their loved ones.
But with your support, I hope to help as many people impacted by cancer as possible. Together, we can support families when they need it most, empower people to reduce their risk, speak up for communities, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.
