I'm stepping up against cancer in honour of my beautiful Mum and every other loved one we’ve sadly lost, are currently fighting, or battled and won

This year, I’m taking on Relay For Life to raise funds for every person who’s ever heard the words: “you have cancer”. Unfortunately (like many), I have countless family and friends that have been affected by cancer in one way or another. In 2015 it became extremely personal when I lost my own beautiful Mum (Beth) to breast cancer. It was actually the second time that she had fought it, and unfortunately was unbeatable in the end.

It was utterly devastating and traumatic to watch someone you love & respect more than anyone in the world slowly slip away and feel completely helpless. I can’t even begin to imagine how Mum felt.

The anxiety of not knowing what the next scan will reveal. The endless searching for break through treatments/trials. The praying for ‘good days’ between treatments so life can feel somewhat normal for a moment. The torment of feeling completely terrified of what the future holds, but putting on a brave face.  

It is an absolute rollercoaster of a ride that I wish upon no one.

Cancer is a devastating disease for so many. For people living with cancer, their treatments can be long and stressful. For those without solutions, the future can be uncertain. It’s a concern shared by their loved ones.

With your support, I hope to help as many people impacted by cancer as possible. Together, we can support families when they need it most, empower people to reduce their risk, speak up for communities, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.
