Allan’s Army

West Coast 2025

Allan’s Army.

This year, I’m taking on Relay For Life to raise funds for every person who’s ever heard the words: “you have cancer”. In 2024, more than 150, 000 Australians will receive the news. Among them are our friends, families and colleagues.

Cancer is a devastating disease for so many. For people living with cancer, their treatments can be long and stressful. For those without solutions, the future can be uncertain. It’s a concern shared by their loved ones.

But with your support, I hope to help as many people impacted by cancer as possible. Together, we can support families when they need it most, empower people to reduce their risk, speak up for communities, and find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.

Every step I take is one closer to a cancer free future. But I can’t do it alone! Please donate to my Relay today and together, we can help Cancer Council provide life-changing support services, advocacy, prevention and research across Australia.

Thank you for stepping up. Together we’ll make powerful strides against cancer!

My Updates

Abit about Allan’s journey

Allan's Journey.

November 2023 our lives were turned upside down.  Allan was diagnosed with aggressive melanoma Stage 4.  He was sent straight to Perth to see a surgeon where they removed the melanoma.  A few weeks later he was back in surgery as they didn't get it all.  Then in April 2024 they discovered that the cancer had got into his lymph nodes in his neck.  So back into surgery to have 17 removed of which 3 were cancerous.   Started on immunotherapy every 3 weeks.  Then in May 2024 he ended up back in hospital with ascitis where they had to put a drain in his abdomin.  3 weeks late he came home after over 12 litres was drained. This time they started him on double doses of immunotherapy to try and nip it in the bus. Had a couple of months at home and back to hospital again with ascitis again as well as a blood clot in his lungs, by this time he was really sick and had lost a huge amount of weight.  Couldn't keep anything down.

Back into surgery to put another drain in and they were allowing 3 ltrs per day to be drained.  4 weeks in hospital later and after stopping the immunotherapy they put him on a targeted drug and let him come home.  Since then the cancer has spread to his brain but a lot of the tumours have dissipated so it's not all bad news.

We've had a pretty good run since September 2024 until July 2025 where the tumour in his brain has gone quite deep in and is growing so we are in the process now of getting radiation done.  The fight continues but trying their best to stay positive. (Written by Karen Taylor)
