Mortlake College 2026

Welcome to Mortlake College 2026 Relay For Life!

Relay is a fun and moving experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, and support services. It’s a chance for the community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, those going through a cancer experience and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost and to raise money to help save more lives. Join the thousands of Australians who take part in Cancer Council’s Relay For Life each year and make strides towards a cancer free future: start or join a team in the 2026 Relay today!

• Just turn up on the day and make a donation at our registration desk or throw some money in our donation tin.
• Help us to sponsor the event – prizes, food etc
• Buy something from our food stalls or enter our silent raffle.
What inspired us to conduct a Relay for Life at Mortlake College?

Our relay is inspired by a number of people in our school community who have been affected by skin cancer. Together with a fabulous team of student leaders, this group have come together to help protect others from the suffering of skin cancer.

Our School Captain, Isabella Pickford is the lead member of our Relay for Life team. When Isabella was just a toddler, her mum was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma.
After years of surgeries and chemotherapy, her life was saved by a clinical trial. The estimated cost of getting a patient onto a clinical trial is $5000, so that figure has become our initial target. How wonderful if our relay could raise enough money to save someone else’s mum!

After losing her own mother to melanoma, Assistant Principal, Anne De Manser is, herself, a melanoma survivor. Constant monitoring and early detection saved her life 12 years ago when a stage 1 melanoma was removed from her leg.
Through our Relay for Life we hope to raise awareness of the need for skin checks and monitoring.

At just 27, Health and PE teacher Amy Lodge has already had several surgeries to remove skin cancers from her face and neck. Amy is a great example of the fact that skin cancer is not just an older person’s disease.
At Mortlake College we value our ‘no hat, no play’ rule and want to help inform others of the need to be vigilant from a young age.

Maths and Drama teacher, Geoff De Manser grew up on the beach in New Zealand. He is now paying the price for those sun drenched years with multiple basal cell carcinomas on his face being removed with painful and unsightly chemotherapy cream.
We hope that some of the money we raise can be directed toward further education about the dangers of skin exposure to UV.
