Survivors & Carers
Are you or someone you know currently going through cancer, a survivor or carer?
On behalf of the Relay For Life committee, we’re proud to invite cancer survivors and carers to be a part of the Relay For Life Opening Ceremony.
The Opening Ceremony is the community’s chance to recognize and celebrate the incredible people who inspire us every day and is a powerful reminder of WHY we Relay.
Survivors and Carers will be introduced at the Opening Ceremony at 2.00 pm and then will be invited to walk the first lap of Relay.
Following the Opening Ceremony, Survivors and Carers will then be invited to a special afternoon tea hosted by the Relay For Life committee.
All participants of our Opening Ceremony announcement and first lap are asked to go to the registration desk prior to opening where you can register your name so we can call you up, and you will also be given your purple survivor sash or your white carer sash.
Let us know you’re coming by registering your attendance or questions with our event committee:
Email: [email protected] Phone: 1300 65 65 85
If you have lost someone to cancer, we would love to recognize your loved one through the Candlelight Ceremony, which includes a tribute video featuring photos of loved ones lost.
It’s a chance for us to remember and reflect on the incredible lives of those who are no longer with us and is a touching tribute to those who inspire us every day.
If you would like to show a photo of your loved one during the Candlelight Ceremony, please send your photos through to our event committee:
Email: [email protected]
Along with the name of your loved one and any additional information you want to share.
To attend our Opening Ceremony and first lap as well as our afternoon tea, survivors and carers do not have to be a registered participant staying with us for the 19 hours. If you are a registered participant as well as a survivor or carer, you are obviously welcome to participate. However, if you have family or friends that are not registered to participate or maybe even unable to, they are still welcome to be part of our Opening Ceremony, first lap walk, and share in the afternoon tea.
We all have our reason to Relay and, on behalf of the Committee, I’d like to thank you for sharing your reason and being a part of these very special events.
Sponsors
Relay For Life is a community event, and it would not be possible without the support we receive from our community. In particular, there are local businesses that provide us with monetary and in-kind support.
If you would like your business to become a sponsor of Relay For Life contact our Harry Gilbertson on 8291 4320 or relay@cancersa.org.au
Under 18s
If you are under 18 years of age, you are required to complete the Youth Consent Form. This form is triggered within the registration process. You will need your parent/guardian available when registering to confirm consent and their email address. The consent form confirmation will be sent to your guardian.
Youth Policy
The Cancer Council requires that every person under the age of 18 must have approval by a parent or guardian to register for and participate in Relay For Life events.
Youth Teams
Cancer Council South Australia requires that teams where the majority of members are under 18 must have two registered adult supervisors present at all times throughout the Relay For Life event. Youth Team Supervisors must be over 21 years of age and are responsible for the behaviour and conduct of the youth they oversee.
Code of Conduct for Youth Teams
We want all participants to enjoy their Relay For Life experience. Common sense is key to everyone having a good time. This means considering and being respectful of the needs of other participants, abiding by the event rules and complying with all reasonable requests from members of the organising committee or Cancer Council South Australia staff.
