"At Relay I walked, talked to total strangers and cried with total strangers."
After losing my hero, my dad, to a long fight with bowel and secondary brain cancer in June 2014, my involvement in the 2015 Casey Relay For Life event had a lot of mixed emotions.
While it is still very raw and the Candle Ceremony was emotional beyond words, I am so grateful to still have my mum. She is a survivor of breast cancer, and she lost her husband and best friend of 48 years.
At Relay I walked, talked to total strangers and cried with total strangers. I believe it was an opportunity to grieve, remember and share my story with so many others.
I was blessed to have my dad for 44 years – some never got to know their loved ones. I will definitely be part of Relay for Life in 2016. RIP, dad (Allan Nelson).
