Natasha's story

"I was very honoured to have a Research Award named in my honour. When our Happy Feet team captain Meg-Ann presented me with the certificate and letter I was truly humbled. I was truly touched and very grateful."

I have been taking part in Relay For Life since 2009 with the team Happy Feet in the Wyndham Relay. We have raised more than $114,400 in that time which is something we’re really proud of.

My personal journey with cancer began when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2014.

Just before Christmas I experienced an aggravating pain on my left side, I visited my GP and was referred to have an ultrasound. It was after the surgery to remove my left ovary that I received my cancer diagnosis which also meant a hysterectomy. After more scans it was also discovered that I had cancer in my uterus.

So within one month I had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, cancer of the uterus, had two major surgeries and thrown into surgical menopause.

A year later I am healthy and doing great! I credit my family and friends for the unconditional love and support I received. I embrace life with a positive mind and see my role as creating awareness where I can, talking about my experience and participating in fundraising initiatives such as Relay Life.

I was very honoured to have a Research Award named in my honour. When our Happy Feet team captain Meg-Ann presented me with the certificate and letter I was truly humbled. I was truly touched and very grateful.

The Research Award will support the work of Associate Professor Clare Scott from the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research into the treatment of ovarian cancer. Natasha is pictured above with Assoc. Professor Scott.

Research Awards are a chance to fund a specific type of cancer research. Your Research Award will help fund a Cancer Council Victoria research grant at a leading Victorian hospital, university, or research centre.
