Junette's story

"To see the community come together is the best part of Relay. That, and the knowledge that we are truly making a difference in the world."

I have been a passionate Relayer and Committee member since the day the Eurobodalla Relay For Life first launched in in 2009.

Having been diagnosed and treated for lung cancer, I wanted to give back to my community in some way. I decided to help out Cancer Council NSW and become involved in Relay after the positive experience my husband and I received during my treatment.

I am passionate about engaging the local community and spreading the word of Relay. I am involved with sourcing raffle prizes from local businesses and promoting and hosting the Survivor and Carer activities at the Eurobodalla Relay. My husband comes along to all the activities, and we even dressed up in matching pirate outfits for the 2014 “Pirates of the Eurobodalla” theme!

Relay gives me hope that there are others out there like myself who have gone through a similar life experience. To see the community come together is the best part of Relay. That, and the knowledge that we are truly making a difference in the world.

Junette was named as one of the 2015 Global Heroes of Hope. Sadly, Junette passed away in December 2014. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. Junette's memory will live on in Relay For Life.
