"My advice to other kids who are fundraising for Relay is to start as early as possible. Knowing someone in my family was sick and going through hard time inspired me to start fundraising. Uncle Lou was really happy and proud that someone was doing something to help. He was a big supporter and was helping me out."
I am 10 years old and Team Captain of a family team at Point Cook Relay For Life in Victoria.
So far I’ve raised over $11,400 in honour of my Grandmother and Uncle.
Mary, my Grandmother, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2012 and passed away in 2013.
Eight months after she passed away, my Uncle Lou was diagnosed with cancer. I started fundraising for Relay For Life when he was sick as my way of fighting back against cancer.
I started with an Easter egg day at school; I was just trying to think of a way to start fundraising and I knew my school wanted to support me. Mum helped – we found a big jar and people guessed the number of eggs.
I’ve held cake stalls and sausage sizzles at my church, at Bunnings and at my Karate centre. We held a taste-testing fundraiser for market research company Taste Point and we received a $1000 donation for that event.
I’ve also spoken at my brother’s Jiu-Jitsu centre and the people I spoke to were inspired. Many people have made donations to me on my person fundraising page on the Relay For Life website.
My advice to other kids who are fundraising for Relay is to start as early as possible.
It's great they want to part of such a wonderful cause and a wonderful event, but it's important to start fundraising early. That way you have time to have more fundraisers and raise more money. Having more fundraisers is the key to success.

He passed away in July this year. Before he died, he asked for donations to my fundraising instead of flowers at his funeral.
Mum said he was really supporting me all the way.
I’m looking forward to being part of Point Cook Relay For Life; seeing how many people come and support it – and if we reach the Relay fundraising goal of $75,000.
